Independant Films

Tecnology has really changed the independant film world. Check out this video!

Independent And Art Filmmaking: How has technology changed the independent film world?

  1. Obviously the point if the video was to show how modern film equipment is now much more economical than it was it the past. I guess this opens up movie making to the Do-It-Yourselfer.
In addition to the actual process of making a movie is the language. In the video, Ben Lyons says “if that film had been shot on film, traditional film…”. Should we still call it a “film” if it was not actually recorded on film? The same with music: should we still call a collected work released by a musician an “album” even thought albums aren’t traditionally released anymore? And if we are not calling these works a “film” or an “album” should we concoct a new word? Just a thought on semantics…

  2. It seems that Ben Lyons can not get over the groundbreaking changes that high definition filming has brought independent producers. It seems that due to the circulation of already established technologies in the world of film quality, anyone can pretty much grab a video camera and expect to shoot a quality film. I realize through his words that as technologies become esablished they become more readily avaiable and at more reasonable prices to more people. When they start off however, they lack this circulation and only the far and few, usually the wealthy can afford it. Such as a "thermal" driveway. A technology that alters the ground temperature around an outside driveway to prevent show build up, wet slippery, leaves, or rain, and any other weather issues. Bill gates supposedly has this technology but it is most likely never heard of my most.

  3. agian...as a video production major the technology has made it so much easier to make an independant film these days. it is much cheaper and easier to use digital video than it is to use film. using digital video it can be shot and edited in a faster and easier because it doesnt need to be developed, like film, and makes it easier to put out a movies at a quicker pace.
