IMAX

Many movies can now be viewed in IMAX, or Image Maximum Theaters. IMAX Theaters first started in Canada. IMAX Theaters show movies on a much larger screen than a standard movie theater screen, giving you a much more intense movie expirence. There are 280 worldwide and more than half of them are in Canada. Standard IMAX screens are 72 feet wide and 53 feet wide. There are 3 types of IMAX Theaters.. IMAX Dome, which is displayed on a dome screen, IMAX Digital, and IMAX 3D.

  1. The Imax expierence is great. it's even better in 3D. The franklin institute was the first i knew of in this area to have an imax theatre. it's also hard to fall asleep there because it so loud with its 73+ speakers and huge screen.

  2. The movie industry has to make the experience more attractive in order to get people to attend, since movies are so accessible these days. I have been to 360 movies, at Disney World, but I have not been to an Imax yet and look forward to my first trip. The Imax movie sounds like a great experience.

  4. I have never been to an Imax theatre, but hear they are great. I know many people who like to go to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia to see the shows they have in their Imax theatre. I couldn't imagine watching something on a 72 inch screen. I can imagine that it is a fun experience. Joe is correct, however, movies are easily accessible and people don't want to pay the cost of going to see one in theatres. The industry has to do something to get people to want to go to the theatre.

  5. Theaters must always have a plan to attract customers. DVDs (and the new Blu-Ray discs) are to blame for their problems. Unlike the past, where it took over a year to go to VHS, it now only takes around six months. Not only that, but the resolution is also vastly superior. You can now get theater quality video and audio from home. IMAX is a great way to attract customers who otherwise would have waited until it came out on Blu-Ray.

  6. It's great to see that the technology of the film industry has expanded past film and into the theater themselves. I have never been to an IMAX movie, but i can't wait to go. It is a lure that one with a big screen fetish can't resist.

  7. Incredible graphics on this thing. I also have never seen an imax movie, but I think it would be cool. As long as I don't sit too close to the screen.

  8. IMAX is bar none my favorite way to watch a movie. The first time I've ever seen it was at the franklin institute. It was a volcano movie about the ring of fire by the pacific ocean...It looked so real and up close I couldn't believe it!

  9. I remember the first IMAX movie I seen was during a field trip to the Franklin Institute (now it is officially known as just “The Franklin” which I think is absolutely stupid). I the movie was “Anthem Philadelphia” and it was a bird’s eye view (or pigeon’s eye view) of the city and some of its historic sites. Being that I am petrified of heights this wasn’t a pleasant experience for me. The next time I saw an IMAX movie is it was at the aquarium in Baltimore and the movie was about the Titanic sinking and they interviewed a women who was 12 at the time. It was fairly young and it was so depressing that my mom and I left early because I was crying too much. More recently I saw the latest Batman movie at the IMAX Theater in Willow Grove. It was awesome. Since then the IMAX was opened at the Neshaminy Mall AMC. I am looking forward to seeing a movie in that format.
